Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What does Following Fido do?

FOLLOWING FIDO is dedicated to making life easier for dog owners by cleaning up dog waste from your yard. It's time consuming, and nobody really wants to do it. Besides, you have better things to do with your time, like unwinding and enjoying your free time with your dog. So let us handle your dog's business and haul it away so you won't even have to think about it.

Why should I have my yard cleaned?

There are various reasons to have your yard cleaned. First, it will prevent dog waste from being tracked into your house and cars. Second, your yard will be more presentable. Also, feces attracts flies as well as other pests. Therefore, keeping your yard clean will protect your family, your pets, and the surrounding community from health risks associated with dog waste. Lastly, dog waste can also seep into ground water and contaminate our storm sewers and waterways.

Why not just let it disintegrate?

Dog waste can pose a serious health hazard not only to other dogs but also to us. Common parasites, including round worm and tape worm, are transmitted through dog waste. When this waste is left on the ground, the eggs can remain in the soil for years. As a result, anyone who comes in contact with the soil also comes in contact with the infected eggs.

Children run the greatest risk of infection because they're prone to play in the dirt and then put their hands in their mouths or rub their eyes with their hands. Parasitic infections can make humans extremely sick, and for pregnant women, can pose a serious harm to their unborn child.

Does Following Fido work through bad weather?

FOLLOWING FIDO will service your yard in almost any weather. However, if our service is interrupted by heavy rain or snow, we will come out on the next suitable day. If we are unable to provide service due to the weather, we will not charge you for that service call. Service may be intermittent over the winter months - if your yard is covered by a heavy snowfall we cannot guarantee a fully cleaned yard.

How do I pay Following Fido?

For one-time and first time visits, payment is due upon completion of the work. If you sign up for a weekly/bi-weekly service we will send you an invoice at the end of the month, when the work for that month has been completed. Payment is due on the fifteenth day of the following month. Payments made after due date will incur an additional $10.00 late fee.

What happens if I cannot pay on time?

Unless previous arrangements are made, service would be suspended after the 1st of the month if your payment is not yet received and a $10.00 late fee is assessed.

Are there any contracts I have to sign?

There are no contracts, but we will have you fill out a "customer agreement", so you can tell us exactly what service(s) you require. There is no minimum service period and you can discontinue your service anytime over the phone, as long as services already rendered are compensated.

Is there any extra charge for the first time?

There may be an additional charge for the initial cleaning if there is a significant accumulation of waste. (Please see our Service Rates chart)

Is it possible to get a one-time only service?

Of course! One time service or short-term services can be arranged almost any time of the year, but we encourage you to subscribe to one of our weekly services for added convenience.

How do I sign up?

You may sign up by calling us at (519)993-6565, or you can email conrad@followingfido.com.

What if I want to skip a service visit?

You will not be charged for a skipped service visit if you call 48 hours in advance. If you choose to skip several service visits, please let us know so we can put a hold on your account and you will not be charged for those days.

How often will Following Fido visit my home?

Most customers prefer service once a week, although we do offer other service schedules to meet our clients' needs. (Please see our Service Rates chart) You do not need to be at home as this service was designed with your convenience in mind. We will only need to make arrangements for access to your yard.

Should I unlock my gate on the day of my scheduled visit?

Yes, we will not climb or jump over fences, so please have your gate unlocked on the day of your scheduled visit. If your gate is locked when we come to do the work, you will still be charged for the visit. If we have to come back to scoop your yard before the next scheduled visit, you will be charged an additional $10 trip charge. You can provide us with a key or lock combination if that is more convenient for you.

Can Following Fido work with my dog in the yard?

Most dogs usually get along well with us, so for the most part this is not a problem. However, there may some cases when a dog will not let us into the yard. If you know that your dog is apprehensive around strangers, or if it becomes clear that your dog will not let us in to clean the yard, we would ask that you tie up the dog or leave them indoors. We do not want to take any unnecessary risks with your dog or our staff. If your dog will not allow us to clean the yard when we come to do the work, you will still be charged for the visit.

How does Following Fido dispose of the waste?

We double bag the pet waste and dispose of it in compliance with all local rules and regulations. We take it away so you never have to see or smell it again.

Could you also clean apartments and condominium grounds?

Certainly! Most of our work is done in the back yards of single-family homes, but many commercial clients like our service as well.

What does "SATISFACTION GUARANTEED" mean?

FOLLOWING FIDO ensures that you will receive service you are happy with. We realize that our business depends on doing the best job we can, and keeping our clients happy is what is most important. We will make it a priority to make sure the job is done right.

Our goal is to clean your yard so you are 100% satisfied, however the following conditions may prevent us from finding all waste: tall grass or weeds, excessive snow or leaves, and non-solid waste.

We strive to do our best, but if there is ever a time when you are not completely satisfied with our service, please let us know right away.
